A herd of wild buffalo is invading and devouring peasants' crops of
tobacco and vegetables, reports the Communist Party daily Granma. In
1987, a group of 26 animals was released into the grasslands of southern
Pinar del Rio, west of Havana. The animals reproduced and spread further
from their original area in search of food, totalling 10-12,000.
