Iran-Relations-Cuba
An Iranian trade delegation headed by Deputy Commerce Minister and Head
of Trade Promotion Organization Mehdi Ghazanfari arrived in the Cuban
capital of Havana to discuss expansion of bilateral trade relations.
According to Iranian Embassy in Cuba, during his Latin American tour,
after visiting Venezuela, Ghazanfari departed for Cuba.
During his tour, he is being accompanied by a delegation including
producers of pharmaceutical, hygienic, plastic and cosmetic products as
well as representatives of companies involved in urban development and
foreign trade and establishment of power plants.
In a meeting with Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Raul de la Nuez, he
underlined that Iran is willing to bolster its relations with various
countries, including Cuba.
Ghazanfari noted that Cuba's last year conference in Tehran on
introduction of trade and investment opportunities in this country in
late winter was very effective.
Meanwhile, he declared the readiness of Iranian Commerce Minister
Massoud Mir Kazemi to visit Cuba for signing a preferential trade agreement.
For his part, De la Nuez referred to his recent visit to Iran and talks
with Iranian officials as well as inspection of some plants, saying that
the production level in Iran is excellent and lauded the progress made
by the country.
Besides, Cuban Deputy Trade Minister Pedro Luis Padron, who attended the
meeting, pointed to the recent development of bilateral ties as
satisfactory.
He added that the present amount of trade exchanges between the two
sides standing at 5.4 million dollars is below the high capacity of Iran
and Cuba in the field.
Turning to 31 mutually signed memoranda of understanding between the two
countries and the continued talks of Iranian and Cuban officials for
improvement of ties, he expressed confidence that the level of economic
exchanges will increase in future.
Head of Iran-Cuba Chamber of Commerce Raoul Becerra said at the meeting
that Cuba can serve as a base for export of Iranian products to the
Caribbean and Latin America.
