Cuba to assemble chinese buses

Cuba to assemble chinese buses

Cuba will assemble the first 200 Chinese YUTONG buses imported from the
Asian nation as part of the Cuban-Chinese collaboration starting in the
second semester of 2007, and these buses will be destined to Havana's
inter-municipal transportation.

The work will be done at "Evelio Prieto" assembly plant in Guanajay,
Havana, where officials said this is the first lot to be assembled in
Cuba, as part of a plan reducing freight costs and to use highly
qualified Cuban labor.

This enterprise also takes care of the maintenance and repair of the
YUTONG buses already being used in Cuba since 2005, when Cuba purchased
a total of 1,000 for inter-provincial transportation.

Cuba negotiated the purchase of another 8,000 for inter-municipal,
urban, school and tourism transportation with the Chinese company,
including joint work for storage, maintenance, spare parts supply and
warranties.
