Nagin: New Orleans seeks charter flights to Cuba

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans is hoping to land direct charter flights
to Cuba.

Mayor Ray Nagin said late Wednesday that the issue was raised during
meetings with U.S. Transportation and State Department officials during
his lobbying trip to Washington, D.C. He says he received no commitments
from federal officials or a timeline for when any response might come.

Since 2005's Hurricane Katrina, local officials have talked about
re-making New Orleans' tourism-based economy and recasting the city more
as a true international destination.
