Workshop on exporting to Cuba scheduled April 21

HOUSTON– A workshop on exporting food, forestry and agricultural
products to Cuba is scheduled April 21 in Houston.

The workshop, which will be held at Brady's Landing at 8505 Cypress, is
sponsored by the Texas-Cuba Trade Alliance , the Texas AgriLife
Extension Service and the Greater Houston Partnership.

"This workshop will provide participants with the market information,
logistical and documentation requirements and knowledge necessary to
export foods and other agricultural products to Cuba," said Dr. Parr
Rosson, AgriLife Extension economist and director of the Center for
North American Studies at Texas A&M University. "The workshop will help
export service providers, food processors and distributors and producers
succeed in the Cuban market."

Jeff Moseley, president and chief executive officer of the Greater
Houston Partnership, is the scheduled keynote luncheon speaker.

Workshop topics include Cuban market potential and an overview of the
Texas trade mission to Cuba, provided by Ernest Bezdek, Port of
Beaumont. Rosson will give a presentation on potential export
opportunities with Cuba. Cynthia Thomas, president of the Texas-Cuba
Trade Alliance, will discuss doing business in Cuba, and Jonathan Brown,
a University of Texas professor with the Institute of Latin American
Studies, will provide an overview on where Cuba may be headed
politically. Tony Cristino, U.S. Department of Commerce, will give his
insights on export licensing, a necessary requirement for exporting to Cuba.

"A panel discussion, led by Jon Jorgensen of Biehl and Company, will
provide critical information about exporting," Rosson said. "The panel
will feature Wayne Cleveland with the Texas Grain Sorghum Association,
Pat Wallesen of WestStar Food Co., and Glen Jones, Texas Farm Bureau."

The registration fee, which includes lunch, is $65 before April 12 and
