Canadian Tourism to Cuba on the Rise

Canadian Tourism to Cuba on the Rise

06.07.2013

The number of Canadian visitors in Cuba had a slight increase in January

to March quarter, official sources reported today.

The National Bureau of Statistics and Information (ONEI) reported that

Canadians constitute 48.9 percent of foreign visitors to Cuba, followed

by the Germans (3.9 percent) and the British (3.7 percent).

During that quarter, 947,891 visitors came to Cuba, slightly less than

in the same period last year (952,885), with a hotel occupancy rate of

63.7 percent from January to March in 2013, compared with 65, 7 percent

last year.

However, in terms of income, the ONEI said that this year there was a

slight increase compared to the same period last year.

The authorities' strategy to support the industry lies in

diversification of tourist offers, above the fundamental sun and beach

tourism, involving attractions such as the nature, culture, history,

quality of life and recreational boating, among others.
