Cuba has new radar to control civil flights

HAVANA, Cuba - A new Russian radar to control the incoming and outgoing
flights in Cuban western region, specially the Jose Marti airport,
started working on Thursday, a statement from the Cuban Civil
Aeronautics Institute (CCIA) said.

The new monopoles secondary radar was made in Saint Petersburg, Russia,
according to all the international and national requirements, and it is
installed on Menocal Hill, south of Havana.

The $2 million device is designed to work seamlessly throughout the
year, providing reliable signals to improve the performance of the air
traffic controllers in the local civil aviation system.

Other four similar radars are being installed to raise the safety and
efficiency of the air traffic control in Cuban airspace, in compliance
with the requirements demanded by the CCIA, the Cuban Aviation Authority
and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
