Polish companies make inroads in Cuban market

Polish companies make inroads in Cuban market
2009-07-28

A Polish business mission has arrived on a fact-finding trip to Cuba.
Deputy Minister of the Economy Adam Szejnfeld told pb.pl that he hopes
the visit will enable Polish entrepreneurs to launch economic
co-operation with Cuba which was put on ice in the 1990s.

According to Szejnfeld Cuba's vast development needs offer good
opportunities for Polish companies. The range of potential areas of
co-operation is very broad – he said.
Cuba is reported to be in need of machinery and equipment which could be
provided by mixed capital companies. Strategic investments in the mining
sector are sought by the Cuban side, although the country's financial
situation could put a damper on expectations – one businessman taking
part in the mission told Pb.pl.
For the past three years we have been exporting construction machinery
to Cuba, but the situation is difficult. The demand would be greater if
the Polish government provided credit backup which is made available by
the Chinese government to its exporters – a Dressta representative is
quoted as saying by pb.pl
