People enjoying a Cuban holiday might soon witness a British influence
on the Caribbean island.
That is if comments from Elena Moya, writing for the Observer, are
anything to go by. She has suggested that a recent delegation could have
paved the way for some 25 UK firms to take root in Cuba.
Igor Caballero, a Cuban embassy spokesman, said in London: "Cuba is open
and prepared to receive foreign capital and to develop mixed projects
along with the Cuban government."
Indeed, the editor of Cuba Initiative David Jessop added that he is
"optimistic" about the possibility of UK investment in the island's economy.
Hotels, energy suppliers and law firms - such as Eversheds, which
currently operates in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the UK and Europe -
are some of the names that have been touted as the first to break the
embargo that has been in place since 1959, the publication continues.
