As part of a master plan for the eastern suburbs of Havana, Norway and
the United Nations Development Program are helping the Centro Técnico
para el Desarrollo de los Materiales de Construcción build a
zero-emission apartment complex in the Camilo Cienfuegos neighborhood,
according to Prensa Latina.
The 16-unit complex in the 1960s-era highrise neighborhood includes
electricity- and water savings designs, including use-water collectors
that produce fertilizer and biogas, which in turn is used in outdoor
lighting. Construction has been completed, and the building is
undergoing testing.
Norway has sponsored annual charettes since 2008 to develop a master
plan for eastern Havana.
