Cuba Updates Insurance Services

Cuba Updates Insurance Services

BAYAMO, Cuba, Sept 26 (acn) The Cuban National Insurance Company (ESEN)
is updating its services, as part of the agreements passed during the
Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), held last April.

The head of operations and development of that institution, Fermin Mesa,
told the press that for that purpose they held a workshop last week, in
Bayamo, in the eastern Cuban province of Granma, for officials and
specialists from the eastern part of the country.

Mesa explained that they aim at modifying agricultural, general, and
personal products and services; as well as those of civic
responsibilities, for benefiting clients; and improving internal
processes for the sake of quality.

As to agriculture, they will boost the increase of production levels as
the country demands, making emphasis on the harvest of rice and other
grains, tobacco, coffee, livestock, and other priority products so as to
reduce imports.

He noted that the Cuban Ministry of Finance and Prices signed a
comprehensive insurance strategy with the agriculture and sugar
ministries, the corresponding trade unions and the National Association
of Small Farmers (ANAP).

Mesa mentioned that life is changing at the time of climate changes;
therefore, during sowing and harvest periods insurance services must be
adjusted.

He pointed out that a key point in this sense is to cover the real needs
of producers, including those ascribed to Law Decree 259, which deals
with the granting of idle lands to farmers as they request it.

Concerning personal insurance, they will expand services, with the
particularity that this is still a complement of social security, said Mesa.

The executive announced that they will held a similar workshop in the
central region of Cuba in October, and then in the western part of the
island.
